Matthew Vassallo



I am Matthew Vassallo, I was born on the 17th October 1989. Music has always played an important role in my life. At the young age of three I started attending St Cecilia's Music school were I learnt my very first skills concerning the music scene. At that time singing was just a hobby but since approximately three years ago I decided that singing should move up onto a higher level in my life.

This was brought about by the first edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in which Sarah Harrison represented the Maltese Islands. The next year I decided to have a go at the contest myself. I wrote the song Let's make the World shine both words and music. This song wasn't one which could be sung alone so I asked my friends David M Chirchop and Neal Sammut to join in. The song was complete and when the apllications opened for the contest we were one of the first to send in our entry. Despite some difficulties we managed to get there in time. there were 117 entries of which only 50 songs were to pass to the semi-final round. After days of waiting the results were finally out. Our song had passed. We could not believe it. We then had to sing live in front of a professional jury. Unfortunately our adventure ended here but this made me realise how much music was important in my life.

From there on I started attending singing lessons mentored by Leontine Spiteri, Isabelle Zammit and recently Phyliscienne Brincat. I have participated in many local activities and have gained encouraging results of which I am very proud. In the future I hope to become a more established singer in Malta and even around the world.
